Op woensdag benoemde de Football Association of Thailand (FAT) de Servi\u00ebr Milovan Rajevac als de nieuwe hoofdcoach van het nationale team voor een contract van een jaar. Rajevac, die Ghana trainde tijdens het WK van 2010, stond op een lijst met vooraanstaande kandidaten, waaronder de Duitse veteraan Wilfred Schaefer, de Braziliaanse aanvoerder Dunga die het WK won en de voormalige coach van Saoedi-Arabi\u00eb Marcos Paqueta. Volgens een verklaring van de FAT 'zocht de bond bijna een maand naar een coach, waarbij capabele kandidaten van over de hele wereld interesse toonden'.<\/p>\n

Thailand al uit Rusland 2018<\/h3>\n

Rajevac vervangt de favoriet van de fans Kiatisuk Senamuang, die een maand geleden aftrad na zware nederlagen in de WK-kwalificaties. Met nog drie wedstrijden te gaan, zijn de War Elephants uit de running voor een ticket naar Rusland 2018, nadat ze slechts \u00e9\u00e9n punt hebben gepakt in zeven wedstrijden in Groep B van de laatste kwalificatieronde van Azi\u00eb.<\/p>\n

Ervaren coach<\/h3>\n

Rajevac komt met indrukwekkende ervaring. Hij leidde Ghana's Black Stars naar de kwartfinales van het WK in 2010, waar ze in een historische shoot-out verloren van Uruguay nadat Asamoah Gyan een penalty in de laatste minuut miste. De voormalige verdediger van Rode Ster Belgrado, die bekendstaat om zijn discipline, heeft ook de nationale teams van Qatar en Algerije gecoacht. Wittaya Laohakul, vicevoorzitter van FAT, kondigde aan dat de eenjarige deal met Rajevac op 4 mei ingaat.<\/p>\n

Verwacht een stralende start<\/h3>\n

Rajevac zal vastbesloten zijn om een goede start van zijn heerschappij te maken. Zijn openingsopdracht is een vriendschappelijke wedstrijd tegen Oezbekistan in Tasjkent op 6 juni.<\/p>\n
